The 10th Rich Man Poor Man dinner will be held on November 3rd, 2018 at Markin MacPhail Centre, Winsport. All proceeds raised will be donated to our three amazing partners: Calgary Student Run Clinic, Project SHINE (Sanitation and Hygiene Innovation in Education), and Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). Donation and ticket sales will be available soon. We will be featuring each of these organizations leading up to the event.
SHINE (Students for Health Innovation and Education) SHINE is a student run group that focuses on bridging the gap between public health and medicine. Students in SHINE are involved in developing, implementing and evaluating research or community projects by partnering with community-based organizations at on-reserve schools, remand centres, and refugee clinics.
The University of Calgary SRC (Student Run Clinic) aims to provide accessible, quality healthcare for underserved populations in Calgary. With the help of physicians and student volunteers, it aims to increase access to primary care services and provide educational programs, health counselling, social and community services.
The department of Family Medicine and Community Practice, at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), seeks to train specialists in Family Medicine (FM) each year. The FM specialist is equipped with a wide range of medical knowledge and skills, and the training also focuses on the development of cultural competency, attitudes that promote holistic health care provision within a community, and health care leadership skills. The purpose of this training is to address the human resource needs in underserved rural communities where more than 80% of the country’s population resides.
Each organization will be featured in depth as we get closer to the event.
